Love: a review of plot using a magnifier p2
Las entry I nonsense about love and the great tragedy. This time it isn’t that much of a nonsense since it is a josei manga and a real love plot.
OOISHI KANKEI
Don’t fret. No one will die this time… There’s a departure Disney style[1]. We start with rich girl loosing her father; a good natured man who has taught her to eat well, killing himself in the process. Thus, she sees herself turned from CEO’s daughter to working girl. The mother returns to the grandparents. Thus, our heroine has to work. Where? In Let petit lapin, a not so well known French restaurant with a chef able to produce delicate relishes. And if you can distinguish curcuma from cinnamon only by nose, you already know the name of the future one: Oda.
Thus, Momoe Fujiwara, trying and trying and failing… Turns into his cook assistant! But she starts the gig in disadvantage. Do I sniff a mix of underdog plot? Momoe can’t peel potatoes[2]. Our hostile chef has gotten rid of any possible help by throwing a drop of hot oil to their faces. Momoe takes the challenge in spite of it. Then, she gets accepted to be introduced to the master mind behind every chef of Japan (in the manga). It is here when she gets dared by that woman: «If you can learn to cook, I can learn to stand on my hands”. The cuisine Cinderella has met the fairy godmother. One a little prunny and moody but still a godmother.
So long, the prince leaves Le petit lapin following his beautiful capable lover… In charge of a different restaurant. Is there another woman? Yeah. There is. Meanwhile, Momoe has learnt to prepare simple stuff, is able to console in the adult way her best friend[3] and even goes to contest.
Can they be any further away from each other? Yes, they can. For the chef prince smiles every single time he thinks Cinderella. And the girlfriend realizes. I don’t have to tell you the ending. Just as the title: delicious. It takes you along sentimentality and real feeling, black horse, growth.

Now, put the magnifier away and take out ice cream and pop corn. Time to watch a French movie! Krzysztof Kieślowski. Red. For Robert Mckee, a revolution of the genre. To me, wonderful expectance. A brokenhearted guy because his girlfriend cheated on him. A girl, brokenhearted cause her boyfriend won’t tell her the time of the day in spite of being the fashion face of advertising. And all this time, both of them have been visiting or meeting this old man who was also cheated on her. A kind of older version of the ML, who was cheated on too. They don’t meet a single time… Until the ferry sinks. The ending is a close up of both drenched and cold faces.
The distance was in just meeting. The obstacles were in the meeting as Robert McKee says. It’s a plot of before the plot.
Snowy field and a red spot. A camellia blooms and fades into white by bleed. It is restrictive a plot but quite the dare to conquer. The love plot can also get different shapes.
What’s your favourite love story to ball up cozily on the couch? Can you give some love to this blog? You only need to like, comment or subscribe. Thank you!
Pasto kalo.
[1] Was Disney copying from mangas that early? A lot of Asian comics feature the dead of one or both parents before the plot starts or starts with it… Coincidence or UFO conspiracy?
[2] Why do Asians obsess themselves with peeling potatoes, apples or pears with knives (not only for hosting services but also in domestic ambiances)… I use the peeler and eat the skin of apples and pears… Yeah, I know. Maybe I’m just very lazy.
[3] How can adults comfort children in any adult way without using the adult way? Just a question.
