Let us take first the «fit» between words and reality. This is imperfect because our knowledge of the world is itself imperfect. This is true in an obvious sense of the statements of flat-earthers or devotees of other delusions, but it is also true in a more interesting way. Humanity’s most impressive attempt to dispel prejudice and attain truth is the tradition of science; yet it is not at any point possible to assert that science has spoken the last, complete and final word on any topic.
